Comic Book Monday #4 – Great Pacific, East of West, Deadly Class

So this was a good comic week but I wasn’t really too interested in the books I read this week which wasn’t such a great feeling. But I have picked up some really cool comics from the library so I’m more excited next week.

Great Pacific #1When fugitive oil heir Chas Worthington settles the infamous Great Pacific Garbage Patch, plants a flag, and declares it his own sovereign nation, the reality of the environmental catastrophe is only the beginning of his odyssey. From acclaimed writer Joe Harris (Ghost Projekt, Spontaneous) and artist Martin Morazzo (Absolute Magnitude) comes a sprawling adventure across earth’s newest, strangest frontier!

Deadly Class

It’s 1987. Marcus Lopez hates school. His grades suck. The jocks are hassling his friends. He can’t focus in class. But the jocks are the children of Joseph Stalin’s top assassin, the teachers are members of an ancient league of assassins, the class he’s failing is “Dismemberment 101,” and his crush has a double-digit body count. Welcome to the most brutal high school on earth, where the world’s top crime families send the next generation of assassins to be trained. Murder is an art. Killing is a craft. At Kings Dominion School for the Deadly Arts, the dagger in your back isn’t always metaphorical.

Collecting the first arc of the most critically acclaimed new series of 2014, by writer RICK REMENDER (BLACK SCIENCE, Fear Agent) and rising star artist WESLEY CRAIG (Batman). Experience the 1980s underground through the eyes of the world’s most damaged and dangerous teenagers.

So the only one I enjoyed this week was East of West. Its such an abstract story but I am enjoying it. I would still tell people to pick up this story.

So I remember reading The Great Pacific a few years ago and thought I would pick it up to give it a try and it was just not interesting. I appreciate when stories go for some original idea but there was just very little plot in this one to keep it interesting.

I have heard so many things around Deadly Class and I’ve got to say that I was really disappointed in it. I just didn’t enjoy the story or the art style and I read a lot of books and comics so I know that I can’t expect everything to be a winner but I was sad after hearing so much about these.
