T5 Wednesday – Gateway into Fantasy

Top 5 Wednesday is a meme that was created by Gingerreadslainey, you can see all the topic that are decided on the Goodreads page if you want to get involved.

This weeks topic is:

Book’s that are probably a good way to get into fantasy

Afterworld by Scott Westerfeld

This is one complete story and is unique and the fantasy is broken up by a bit of contemporary and it’s not too full on and I think this would be a good first fantasy book.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

This is a bit more full on but it’s for the older readers trying to get into fantasy because it’s constructed so well and deals with some more serious topics.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

So this is a duology but is a retelling and a lot of people have probably heard of the original story. It’s super non-committal and quick to jump in and enjoy.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

This is just great especially how well it is constructed and it’s short but the characters are lovable.

Shaodw and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

I’m recent on the bandwagon but read this!

What’s your favourite genre and what books would you recommend to people wanting to jump into it?

  1. I agree with Cinder! It has great characters and a decently fleshed out world, plus there are familiar elements to the story to be excited about.
I just bought the Wrath and the Dawn recently. Hoping to get to it soon!
