Today is Top Ten Tuesday – A weekly bookish list created by The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic is:
Ten Books I Picked Up On A Whim
So a lot of the books I p up on a whim are because I spent a lot of my childhood in library pilfering through books and the old fashioned way of reading blurbs. So here are books I picked up just because…
The Winner’s curse by Marie Rutkoski
So I liked the rendition of this in relation to what I thought was a take on the colonisation of the Americas but two years later and everyone was all over it and I loved it but never knew how much it would blow up.
Halo by Alexandra Adornetto
Walking about WH Smith right before going on holiday and I’m a book finding machine.
All These Things I’ve Done by Gabrielle Zevin
This is still one of the most underrated books/series in my opinion. People need to read it.
Evermore by Alyson Noel
I have no clue how I came across this but I read it all. I think it was probably due to a charity shop having quite a few in the series.
After the End by Amy Plum
I read this a year or so ago and forgot what it was called or about and I’m so glad to have found out and I’ll be getting tot he second book soon hopefully because this story has really stuck with me.
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Again WH Smith before going on holiday and the cover looked weird and I loved fantasy and it was about Shadowhunters which I had never heard of. I actually picked up this series when it was only planned to be three books so I’ve really enjoyed going on this journey as I think with 10 books now it’s pretty intimidating.
The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney
I love faeries and I love the different renditions of them so when I’m at the library reading a blurb and faeries are mentioned I’m getting it.
Wicked lovely by Melissa Marr
Again, library, faeries…… but I HATED IT. I’ve tried reading this series 4/5 times because I’m that committed to faeries but I just can’t do it and I don’t think I’m going to try again.
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
I attempted this far too young and this was a big book for 10 year old me so fair to say I never finished it but I did get through a fair chunk.
The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi
I loved this series but I always forget about it or that I read it but the art in it and the creatures is beautiful. I love having that in books, I love supernatural things and really developed insights into them and I find that the visual is quite rare and unfortunately I have no drawing talent or I would create my own creatures for different series. Seriously, I would love to create a bestiary of all different fantasy species and the different variations and series…. I’ll never do it but I’ll always dream abut it.
Gah! I keep forgetting about After the End! Thanks for reminding me! *scampers off to Goodreads* My TTT ‘On a Whim’ books.
